Skipping Stones · Level 2 · Board 5

The square pool and its return lane

Make a foothold inside the pool, then use it to line up the two-pad departure.

A square pool enclosed by stone-edged land, with pink and blue stones along its upper side, one pad inside and a pair of pads outside the left edge.

Two-sailor notation

A = the original sailor from Level 1. B = the companion introduced in Level 2. Left, right, up and down refer to the pictured board.

Stop after any hint. The complete route and later-state picture remain hidden below.

Hint 1What to notice

The blue stone establishes where the second sailor can stand. Save the pink stone for moving the pads.

Hint 2What to set up

After the first catch, B needs to stand on the submerged stone inside the pool.

Hint 3The decisive move

The final throws are not simultaneous: B prepares the left pad, then A launches and boards the right one.

  1. Make the foothold

Place A above the blue stone and B opposite it across the pool. A pushes down to B. B steps onto the submerged stone.

  2. Pass the pink stone around

A pushes pink down into the water and then left beneath B. B pushes it down, left six tiles, up seven, right across the water, then down two and left to move the pad left. Step B right out of the return lane.

  3. Return and position

A pushes the stone right back to B and stays with the pad. B moves it up twice and left across the water, then to A’s left; put B on the left pad.

  4. Launch A’s ride

A moves the stone left twice and up twice, above the pad, then throws left. Board the right pad promptly so both sailors leave on the currents.

Check your result

B’s first foothold remains available, and both sailors are on their intended pads when the final launch finishes.

If your attempt went wrong

An unexpectedly caught return usually means B did not step aside. Undo that return before altering the blue-stone foothold.
