Skipping Stones · Level 2 · Board 6

Reverse the pad at the right moment

Reverse a travelling pad twice: first to reach the checkpoint, then to transport a stone.

Is this your board?

Two islands face one another across open water. A pink stone waits on each side, with narrow docks and a checkpoint above the crossing.

If your layout differs, compare the other boards before following this route.

Two-sailor notation

A = the original sailor from Level 1. B = the companion introduced in Level 2. Left, right, up and down refer to the pictured board.

Stop after any hint. The complete route and later-state picture remain hidden below.

Hint 1What to notice

One sailor launches the pad; the other changes its direction before it arrives. Both stones need to be ready first.

Hint 2What to set up

The first reversal comes from downward throws. Later you repeat the idea with upward throws.

Hint 3The decisive move

On the second trip, place a stone onto the passing pad before heading for the lower docks.

  1. Prepare both downward throws

A moves the right stone right and down four tiles. B moves the left stone left and down four tiles. A pushes down to send the pad left.

  2. Reverse and ride

Just before the pad reaches B’s throwing column, B pushes down to send it right again. A boards and reaches the checkpoint.

  3. Set up the upward pair

A pushes the top stone left into the water; B stands beneath it. A sends the remaining stone all the way up, moving the pad left. B pushes up just before the pad reaches the column, reversing it right.

  4. Load the passing pad

A pushes the stone down onto the travelling pad. Then move A down eight tiles and right two, and push down to shift the pad left.

  5. Use both lower docks

A crosses quickly to the lower-right dock; B crosses to the lower-left dock. Take both sailors down to the continuation.

Check your result

In each exchange the pad first moves left and then right. On the second exchange it must also carry the stone.

If your attempt went wrong

If the reversal happens too early or late, undo the second throw, not the whole setup. If the stone misses the pad, repeat the loading throw with the pad directly in its path.
